Kidmore end 2’s travelled to west Berkshire for there first outing of the year. With a strong side in tow kidmore skipper Anthony Holland won the toss and chose to bat first.

Chatterjee and Driscoll batted for 17 overs in tricky conditions and this was only broken up as Driscoll was bowled trying to accelerate with chatterjee following soon after . This brought kidmore end’s youth to the crease Joshua finch and Sanay sadhwani (both u15’s)to the crease with some quick running and some lofty blows kidmore moved forward quickly until the partnership was ended with finch being bowled and sadhwani being caught by an outstanding catch

In comes veterans turner and frost to the crease and with a couple of firm blows they took kidmore to a respectable total of 164/6 aided by wicketkeeper Oliver

Thatcham reply started slowly because of some very good bowling by u15 Joshua finch who was extremely unlucky not to pick up a wicket and with opening  partner Thomas Branch kidmore thought they were never in danger ,however this  was soon to change as thatcham no5 Revanth Jonnagadia came in and started hitting the ball to all parts of the ground .With a couple of bowling changes and an exceptional display by Sanay sadhwani picking his maiden senior 5fer kidmore restricted thatcham to 111/9 to claim the victory.

Sunday 5th May - U13 64 /9 [20 overs] LOST v West Ilsley 65/4 14.4 overs (away game) - Scorecard

It was a sobering first morning of the 2024 cricket season for the U13 as they crashed to a heavy defeat away at West Ilsley. Asked to bat in challenging, start of season conditions, Kidmore made a solid start with the two Harry’s playing with good technique and picking up singles on a frustratingly slow outfield coupled with a soft, wet pitch which made scoring difficult. This however, was the best period that KECC enjoyed and once Devanny was bowled and Turnbull caught, the middle order failed to push the score on going from 22-3 to 34-8 in a difficult half hour of cricket. The winter nets at Shiplake looked a far cry from current conditions as captain Minnaar was left to shepherd the tail to eke Kidmore to a below par 64/9.

Buoyed by a stirring chat from Charlie at the break, Kidmore came out of the traps looking for early wickets with slower bowling given the nod over the usual pacers from the main street end. West Ilsley already looked more at ease with the conditions as they fed off some inaccurate bowling. With the score on 29 Kidmore got their first wicket with Pawley inducing an inside edge from Baker onto his stumps. Minutes later some sharp work from Prodger got rid of Walsh. Kidmore were in the hunt but batters 3 and 4 had other ideas and they together with extras pushed the score towards to target. De Savoye got in on the act and there was a run out from Syms but all too late for Kidmore End who endured a difficult loss.

Training for these conditions and building an innings slowly will be themes at training this week as we look to bounce back.
